Meet Alena Helikarova
A Unique Journey in Physiotherapy
East Cannington physiotherapist Alena Helikarova brings over 12 years of experience to her practice, combining traditional physiotherapy techniques with functional medicine insights. Initially trained in Europe, where she earned her master’s degree in physiotherapy, Alena developed a strong foundation in both theory and hands-on practice. Her education emphasised the importance of seeing the body as an interconnected system rather than isolated parts.
After completing her formal education, Alena worked in various clinical settings whilst continuing to expand her knowledge through additional training in women’s health, functional medicine, and paediatric rehabilitation. Her practice in Australia began after completing all recognition of learning exams, ensuring her European qualifications met Australian standards.
Personal Experience Informing Professional Practice
Alena’s own health journey profoundly influenced her approach to physiotherapy. While studying, she began experiencing chronic fatigue & pain, headaches, menstrual cycle issues and was eventually diagnosed with endometriosis. When conventional medical approaches offered only painkillers and repeated surgeries without addressing root causes, she began exploring alternative paths to healing.
As a former professional athlete, she understands the frustration of physical limitations and the importance of finding solutions that support overall well-being, not just symptom management. These personal experiences give her unique insight into conditions where standard approaches often fall short.
